Abstract
This paper reviews the principles that can create a green local government fleet aimed at reducing environmental impact and maintaining today's lifestyle for future generations. Australia currently has less that 1 percent of the world's vehicles. Manufacturers who target environmental savings and alternative fuels cannot be influenced by such a small part of the world market unless the technology developed in Australia has uses in other motor vehicle markets of the world. The most critical savings are elements that can be hazardous to health. Thereafter elements that can be recycled must be measured and offset correctly to ensure a total environmental balance. In greening the plant and vehicle fleet it is important to measure the total environmental impact. and not just consider vehicle emissions alone. if we are to provide sustainability of our current lifestyle for future generations.
