Abstract
The paper deals with the calm water characteristics of SWATH vessels. The influence of the main form parameters on the resistance is discussed. Both different hull forms as well as different configurations are compared. The results of presently available resistance prediction tools are compared with model test results to show their practical use in design work. Propulsion phenomena, specific for SWATH vessels are discussed and illustrated. A short introduction of all possible manoeuvring devices which can be used on SWATH ships completes this presentation.
