Abstract

Low value by-catch forms about 10-12% of the \ntrawl landings at Chennai. Fishes form about \n60 - 65% of this by-catch. The major fishes occurring \nin the by-catch include - silverbellies, cardinal fishes, \nflatheads, lizardfishes, whitebaits anchovies, \ncroakers, threadfin breams, monocle breams, \nflatfishes, dragonets, glassies, rays and skates, \ngoatfishes, pufferfishes, scorpionfishes etc. Juvenile \ncroakers have been found to occur in considerable \nproportion in the by-catch.
