Forest conservation and management in the Guiana Shield.

Abstract

This chapter explores forest conservation and management direction in the Guiana Shield since its earliest inception to recent initiatives. The relationships between regional landscape conservation, patterns of biological diversity, economic use of forestland resources and global economic drivers, drawing upon the growing volume of studies in the tropics recently published, are discussed.
