Abstract

The energy-conservation methods and techniques described can help a facility to continue operating normally, even in the face of shrinking availability of usual fuel sources and escalating prices. The entire range of energy-saving techniques is presented in a way that will provide direction to managers for reducing energy-related losses. Some can be implemented immediately at little cost, while others may require substantial financial investment. Trends, the growing government involvement, and the conservation programs developing on the Federal level will be of interest to managers planning conservation changes. Details of energy-conservation economics and environmental regulations will help in judging the feasibility of changes in equipment and operations. The experiences of large companies and details of equipment, process, and building designs provide examples. Energy-conservation activities in the states show what is happening locally. 65 figures, 76 tables.
