Abstract
It is widely believed that hazardous-waste reduction is necessary at any facility generating wastes to reduce the amount of wastes requiring off-site disposal and to lower associated costs. Waste reduction requires changes inoperating procedures such as product reformulation, process modification, equipment redesign, recovery of waste materials for reuse, and waste preparation for exchange or resale. The authors outline several waste reduction techniques ion each of these areas from the Manual of Practice titled Hazardous Waste Treatment Processes Including Environmental Audits and Waste Reduction, prepared under the direction of the Hazardous Wastes Committee Task Force on Hazardous Waste Treatment.
