Abstract

Abstract In 1916, soon after the publication of Einstein’s equations, an exact solution was constructed by Schwarzschild that could model the gravitational field outside a spherically symmetric isolated body such as the Sun. It was shown that, in first approximation, the relativistic planetary trajectories, i.e. timelike geodesics of the Schwarzschild metric, coincide with the Kepler orbits.
