Abstract

In circumstances of the information society, information and knowledge act as the most important economic good. Economic activity is built around acquisition, storage, processing and use of information as well as acquisition and application of knowledge in order to gain a competitive advantag and to create and meet new consumer demand. Thus, a fundamental transformation in the nature and essence of economic activity is taking place with a systemic influence on the formation of a new type of economy. The digital economy can be considered as one of the stages in the formation of a new economy following the stages of post-industrial economy, information and service economy, and the Internet economy. With this approach, the new economy can be characterized as a system of economic relations based on information and communication technologies, in which the management of ongoing economic processes is carried out using digital models. In other words, the digital economy is a manifestation of the new economy or neo-economy
