Abstract

The difficulties associated with the introduction of automated air traffic control systems (ATC) are analyzed. Various aspects of automation ATC, including safety and potential risks, are considered. Examples of successful implementation of automation and cases where automation caused problems, as well as possible measures to solve them are given. A general picture of ATC automation, indicating how it is possible to rationally balance between technology, the human factor and control systems, is presented. Keywords automation, air traffic control, airspace, NextGen, ERAM, iTEC
