Abstract

Abstract Verocytotoxin (VT)-producing Escherichia coli (VTEC) infection is associated with a distinct illness, the clinical spectrum of which includes non-specific diarrhoea, haemorrhagic colitis, and the haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS). HUS is the leading cause of acute renal failure in children.
