Abstract
Abstract The cDNA sequence for human and mouse (GenBank accession numbers X04688 and X06270) predict proteins of 134 and 133 amino acids, respectively. Sequence information is available for both the human and mouse genomic genes (GenBank accession numbers J02971 and XO6271).The coding sequence of the IL-5 gene forms four exons. The introns show areas of similarity between the mouse and human sequences, although the mouse has a considerable amount of sequence (including repeat sequences) which are not present in the human gene. The mouse gene includes a 738 bp segment in the 3’ untranslated region which is not present in the human gene, giving a transcript of 1.6 kb compared to 0.9 kb in man. The gross gene structure are also shared by IL-3, IL-4, and GM-CSF (Sanderson 1994).
