Abstract
Abstract Tumor necrosis factor-/] is also known as lymphotoxin, lymphotoxin-a, and cytotoxic factor. TNF/J is closely related and genetically linked to TNFa (Turetskaya et al. 1992) and LT/J (Browning et al. 1993). It has many of the same activities as TNFa. It is also related to CD40 ligand, CD27 ligand, and CD30 ligand. In contrast to the other family members it does not possess a transmembrane leader peptide and it is secreted. However, it can form a heteromeric membrane associated complex with LT/J (Fig. 1). TNF/J binds with high affinity to two different receptors, p55 TNF receptor and p75 TNF receptor.
