WITHDRAWN: Painful Genital Ulcers in Syphilis – an Atypical Presentation

Syphilis is a well-known sexual transmitted infection that has become more prevalent in the world in recent decades. Syphilis is caused by the spirochete Treponema pallidum subspecies pallidum. In the primary stage of syphilis, a single, painless, indurated ulcer (or chancre) commonly forms at the site of infection. However, the chancre has been shown to differ from its usual presentation which carries some challenges in clinically diagnosing a patient with syphilis. Here we describe a patient with multiple painful genital ulcers found to have syphilis and discuss the possible reasons for this atypical presentation of syphilis.
