Abstract
Hydrogen is considered as an energy carrier which when combined with electricity can be used as an innovative system of overall energy. The properties like light weight, easy to store, high in energy density and production of no harmful direct emissions make hydrogen suitable for contributing to the transportation sector as well as secure use of energy. Also, hydrogen can produce energy which is clean and it is considered as versatile fuel in the history of energy sector. The resources like fossil fuels, wind, hydro, geothermic and nuclear products which are somehow available in the nature can be used for producing hydrogen and this could be termed as a benefit for using hydrogen as carrier of energy. Various methods of production with storage systems are discussed in this paper. The applications of hydrogen as fuel are also elaborated with transportation and load leveling. The challenges are discussed and suitable conclusion has been made that present era is the time when there is a need to scale up emerging technologies and best use of hydrogen should be made. This paper gives a basic study about hydrogen and hydrogen economy for clean and reliable use.
