PARASITIC SYSTEM OF SCRUB TYPHUS: CHIGGER MITES (ACARIFORMES, TROMBICULIDAE) AS VECTORS AND RESERVIOURS OF INFECTION IN SOUTH EAST ASIA

Abstract

This review is dedicated to chigger mites (Trombiculidae) as vectors and reservoirs of infection in scrub typhus foci in South East Asia. Here we review biology, infection rates in natural and anthropurgic foci of scrub typhus. Vector competence of chigger mite species were summarized. Key words: scrub typhus, Orientia tsutsugamushi, Trombiculidae, vectors.
