Abstract Among the parameters influencing plasma arc cutting, arc current, cutting speed, and plasma torch height act as the main factors. Especially to maintaining the plasma torch height during plasma cutting process is important. Plasma torch height control system consists of a plasma arc sensing, controller, prediction and stepping motor control system of plasma torch height. To improve the accuracy of plasma torch height control, a height control algorithm based on rolling grey prediction model was proposed and the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and method was verified through computer simulation and experiments.
