Wideband Single-Layer Antenna for V-Band On-Chip Antenna Measurement

Abstract

A novel GSG micro-probe fed reference antenna is proposed for V-band on-chip antenna measurement. By introducing a pair of patches and slots on the radiation aperture, a wide impedance bandwidth is achieved. Grounded coplanar waveguide (GCPW) is adopted to reduce the loss and overall size of the antenna. Bonding wires are introduced on the corner of the GCPW to solve the problem of phase inconsistency. Measured results show that the proposed $1 \times 4$ antenna array can achieve 35% (53-75 GHz) impedance matching bandwidth (SWR $\lt 2)$ with gain varying from 7.9 to 15.75 dBi. At the same time, because the antenna is only processed by a single PCB layer, it is very suitable for on-chip antenna measurement as the reference antenna.
