Abstract

In this paper, the weldability of carbon and alloy steels during surfacing was considered. The paper consists of a theoretical and experimental part. In the theoretical part of the paper, the general concepts related to weldability are pointed out, the most important methods for the assessment of weldability are described and the assessment of weldability of some carbon and alloyed steels is determined. In the experimental part, two carbon and two alloyed steels were hard faced with different filler metals. After the hard facing, on prepared samples the hardness measurement was done as well as examination of the microstructure of specific zones of welded joint. The weldability of used steels was estimated on the basis of hardness and microstructure and it was compared to theoretical results.
