Abstract

This chapter looks at questions around school choice, and focuses particularly on charter schools and similar reform ideas. Three central questions are considered. Should policy makers deliberately keep the charter school sector small relative to the number of traditional public schools? Should most of the regulations that apply to public schools be waived for charter schools? And should the education system aggressively hold charter schools accountable for test performance and other measures of student outcomes or school processes?
