Abstract

This chapter focuses on the benefits and operations of advanced content delivery network (CDN) technologies used in OTT and metaverse services. First, an introduction to how Netflix, Disney+, and Facebook use CDNs is described. Second, the CDN structure and operations of CDN content delivery are introduced, which include details on CDN hierarchical content delivery. Third, CDN caching services and content updating operations along with CDN popularity prediction and content update techniques (with operational examples of the Least Recently Used (LRU) and Least Frequently Used (LFU) strategies) are introduced. Fourth, the characteristics of mobile CDN services are described.
