Abstract

The content of basic nutrients and minerals in the samples of common ragweed (A. artemisiifolia L.) from seven different sites was investigated. The investigation was performed by standard chemical methods. Test results indicate that this weed plant has good nutritional properties both in the content of basic nutrients and the content of macro and microelements. The greatest variability in the content of microelements: iron, cobalt and zinc was found. The average value of protein content (12.02±1.25%) is higher than the protein content in unshelled oats and lower than the content in dehydrated alfalfa hay. The average value of crude fiber (30.30±3.62%) in the samples of common ragweed is greater than its contents in unshelled oats and dehydrated alfalfa (with 15% protein). The average values of investigated microelements were higher than their values in oats and dehydrated alfalfa hay (with 17% protein). The same ratio is with macroelements: magnesium and potassium. In the case of calcium and phosphorus, the average values in samples of common ragweed are similar to the values of these elements in dehydrated alfalfa hay (with 15% protein). The results indicate the need for further studies of this weed.
