Abstract

The most common technique used to survey Arctic char Salvelinus alpinus (L.) in Ireland is gill netting, which is a lethal method of sampling. This article reports on the suitability of fyke nets as a non-destructive method to trap mature Arctic char Salvelinus alpinus (L.) close to their spawning beds based on work carried out in the southwest of Ireland.
