Radical Right (Scandinavia)

The “radical Right” in Scandinavia refers to a diverse set of political actors within the Northern European countries of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Radical right‐wing movements and parties vary in their aims and origins, but are linked through a shared nativism that fuels the contemporary radical Right internationally. Nativism pairs nationalism and xenophobia, manifesting in calls for securitization against the threats posed by immigrants from non‐Western countries. In this entry, the concept “radical Right” is used exclusively for parties and movements that accept the democratic system and that denounce violence as a political method, whereas we will use the concept “extreme Right” for openly anti‐democratic or violent parties and movements.
