Abstract
Abstract A thornless variant of the trifoliate orange [ Poncirus trifoliata (L.) Raf.] was found as a chance seedling. All other characters were indistinguishable from those of normal trifoliate. Genotypes of the variant at loci controlling GOT isozymes were PP,SS , whereas those of the normal trifoliate orange have been reported to be MP,SM . The variant is concluded to arise from spontaneous inbreeding of normal thorny trifoliate orange. The variant showed poor growth.
