A Study on the Team Management Strategies by the Characteristics of KBO Baseball Stadium: The Case of Jamsil Baseball Stadium

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore strategy that KBO League teams can take by using characteristics of baseball stadiums. The authors classified the stadiums according to the ‘Park Factor’, researched focusing on Jamsil Baseball Stadium, which has the most prominent characterisitcs. The difference in perfromance between Jamsil baseball stadium and other stadiums was found. 226 batters and 101 pitchers in the KBO League were classified by type and compared regular season stats recorded between Jamsil baseball stadium and other stadiums by type.BR The results of the study are as follows. First, Jamsil baseball stadium is the most pitcher friendly stadium in KBO League. Second, batters performed different in hitting according to the stadium, and there was a difference in extra-base hitting power according to type. But, the interaction effect according to the stadium and type was not significant. Third, pitchers had significant differences depending on the stadium and type. However, the interaction effect according to the stadium and type was not significant. The KBO League teams may differ in their strategies for using players according to types, and may consider strategies to change the characteristics of the stadium.
