Abstract

Abstract (2-Chloroethyl)phosphonic acid (ethephon), succinic acid-2,2-dimethylhydrazide (daminozide) or (2-chloroethyl)trimethylammonium chloride (chromequat) inhibited transplant growth of tomato ( Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) when applied in the glasshouse. In descending order of effectiveness were daminozide-chlormequat combinations, daminozide, ethephon, and chlormequat. Ethephon, daminozide, or chlormequat reduced transpiration. Clipped plants were delayed in fruit set 1 month while daminozide-chlormequat and chlormequattreated plants were delayed 10 days. Total season yield was unaffected by any treatment.
