Impact of climate oscillations on the Net Primary Productivity of Indian and Pacific Oceans

Abstract

The warming scenarios prevailing in global oceans have considerable effects on ocean biogeochemistry. In addition to this, the El-Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO), Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) are dominant modes of climate variability that contribute to the physical and biological mechanisms occurring in global oceans. Our analyses confirm that there exist NPP oscillations between the eastern and western poles during positive/negative IOD events. The responses of Niño regions to NPP are different, with the Niño 1+2 region (near to the Peru coast) responding in phase to the El-Niño and La-Niña events, while the other Niño regions are not in phase with ENSO events
