Abstract
Cryostat microtome is used to cut histological sections at low temperatures in the biomedical field. The process is commonly called frozen section histology and is much faster than traditional histology. Medical laboratories generally use a cryostat to preserve frozen tissue samples. The frozen tissue is then ready to be cut into thin sections in a microtome, also placed inside the cryostat chamber. The cryostat has a cooling system to control the temperature of the working area of the microtome and knife carrier and to cool the freezing stations for specimens on the specimen stage. A regulated DC motor operates on the hand wheel of the cryostat microtome by means of an electromechanical clutch and a reduction gear. The cryostat microtome machines can be used for mobile diagnostics, clinical laboratories, and research laboratories for biomedical, neuroanatomical, and pharmaceutical research.
