Slum upgrading strategies involving physical environment and infrastructure interventions and their effects on health and socio-economic outcomes

This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Intervention). The objectives are as follows: The main objective of this systematic review is to: examine the effectiveness of slum upgrading strategies, involving physical environment and infrastructure interventions, for improving the health and quality of life of slum dwellers. Secondary research objectives are to: examine the effectiveness of slum upgrading strategies, involving physical environment and infrastructure interventions, for improving the socio‐economic wellbeing of slum dwellers; identify slum dwellers' perceived needs, preferences for slum upgrading, and satisfaction with interventions they receive; identify potential adverse impacts slum upgrading may have on slum dwellers' health and wellbeing; define and identify programme characteristics and components which increase the health and wellbeing of slum dwellers; identify external contexts that may boost or hinder intervention effects.
