Abstract
Intersubjectivity can be viewed as the middle ground between objectivity and subjectivity because it contains characteristics of both epistemological stances. Intersubjectivity is focused on the belief that research is neither purely objective nor purely subjective in nature. In this entry intersubjectivity is described as agreement among scientists occurring via communication and the sharing of meanings regarding their research objects and research contexts. The assumptions on symbolic interactionism are provided to help better understand intersubjectivity based on how the meanings attached to objects are shared among people through interactions. Finally, two classifications of intersubjectivity are introduced. Three commonalities from these classifications are intersubjectivity by regimentation/standardization, intersubjectivity by explicitness/explication, and dialogical intersubjectivity/members check.
