Abstract

The United States’ likely withdrawal from the INF Treaty expands the possibility of a new arms race involving nuclear weapons and gives rise to serious security concerns, especially in Europe and the Asia-Pacific. It is crucial that the treaty's demise not be allowed to have a negative effect on the New START Treaty and its extension to 2026, which are far more important.
