Class, Perceptions of

Abstract Research in sociology has long been concerned with perceptions of social class. This literature takes many forms – class identification, class awareness, and class consciousness – and is often directly related to politics and political behavior. This entry explains the differences between class identification, class awareness, and class consciousness and how “perceptions of class” influence political behavior and class politics in society today.
