Abstract

Parathyroid carcinoma is certainly a rare malignancy. Based on the Surveillance Epidemiology, and End Results database, the reported incidence of parathyroid cancer is less than one per million population per year over a 16-year period from 1988 to 2003. It is an uncommon cause of primary hyperparathyroidism, accounting for less than 5% of primary hyperparathyroidism cases. This chapter reviews the incidence, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of this disease.
