Diseases of beech (Fagus sylvatica)

The common or European beech, Fagus sylvatica , grows widely throughout Europe. It still makes up about 5 per cent of the forest area in Britain, where among the hardwoods it is exceeded in area only by oak. It is one of the few timber trees that grows successfully on chalk and limestone soils.
