Abstract
Abstract A life table is a traditional representation of estimates related to grouped survival times, sometimes called the “actuarial” method. Besides the survivor function, it usually contains estimates of residual life expectancy. There are also so‐called multiple‐decrement tables relevant for competing risks. The history of the life table is long and well documented. Many special terms have been attached to the life table during its service in demography and actuarial mathematics.
