Abstract
The snakes of Baja California and the Gulf of California consist of 22 genera and 55 species. This chapter discusses the identification, distribution, geographic variation, and natural history of the following snake fauna: Leptotyphylopidae (blind snakes), Boidae (boas and phytons), Colubridae (glossy snakes, rat snakes, sand snakes, shovel-nosed snakes, ringnecked snakes, kingsnakes, whipsnakes, leaf-nosed snakes, gopher snakes, long-nosed snakes, patched nose snakes, ground snakes, black-headed snakes, garter snakes, lyre snakes), Elapidae (coral snakes and sea snakes), and Viperidae (vipers and pit vipers).
