Abstract

Cardiac rhythms arising from the atrioventricular junction are referred to as junctional rhythms. This area is composed of the atrionodal bundles converging into the proximal atrioventricular bundle, the compact node and the distal atrioventricular bundle which includes the Bundle of His (see chapter 1). These include ectopic junctional beats and rhythms, junctional tachycardia and rhythm disturbances caused by macro re-entry circuits that involve the atrioventricular node and accessory pathways (atrioventricular re-entrant tachycardia). These rhythm disturbances are discussed in this chapter.
