Abstract
The presence of a monoclonal immunoglobulin or immunoglobulin fragment in the blood is called paraproteinemia or monoclonal gammopathy . The pathological molecules (paraproteins) are secreted by B lymphocytes or plasma cells and may be present in serum, urine, or both. It is important to distinguish between monoclonal gammopathies of undetermined significance (MGUS), and those associated with the proliferation of malignant plasma cells in multiple myeloma, or other diseases like malignant lymphomas or primary systemic amyloidosis.
