Women's empowerment for agricultural development.

This chapter first examines the multi-dimensional role of women in agriculture, the limited role of women in decision making in India, as well as women's role in innovation systems. The need to empower women in agriculture is then discussed, highlighting insights from the First Global Conference on Women in Agriculture. Also discussed is the linkage between women empowerment and household nutritional security. The chapter ends by outlining some actions required at the national, regional and international levels to empower women in agriculture and thus contribute to sustainable agricultural development.
