Abstract

The L. K. Whittier Foundation of Pasadena, Calif., has given the California Institute of Technology $980,000 to build a seismological observatory, to be designed and run by Caltech's Seismological Laboratory. The Whittier Advanced Geophysical Observatory will consist of three broad‐band, highdynamic‐range, digital seismometers that will be placed to form a triangle extending from near Santa Barbara to central California to near the Mexican border. Exact locations will be determined later.
