Abstract Bluetongue virus (BTV) is the type species of the genus Orbivirus within the family Reoviridae , a large family of double‐stranded ribonucleic acid (dsRNA) viruses. BTV causes the disease ‘bluetongue’ in sheep, although the virus also infects cattle, deer, camels and goats.
