Heating by compression differs from heating by heat exchange, and the heat capacity in the former process must not be equal to that in the latter.It is shown that the well-known Clément-Desormes method can also be used for measuring the isobaric heat capacity in heating by compression, which differs from that found in heat exchange.Using a modified Clément-Desormes method one can obtain heat capacities of gases with great accuracy.Here, the heat capacity of gaseous carbonic acid is determined.The correct equation for work performed by an expanding gas is specified.
