Abstract
This chapter describes electronic warfare systems' classifications, involved technologies and systems. It highlights the salient features of major international electronic warfare systems and their deployment scenarios. The chapter focuses on electro-optic countermeasures (EOCM). EOCM systems play an important role in the present day warfare due to widespread use of lasers and other electro-optic systems. The chapter discusses the passive and active electro-optic countermeasures with particular emphasis on laser warning and countermeasures and missile approach warning sensor and infrared (IR) countermeasures. It explains the types of electronic warfare systems. The types include electronic support measures (ESM) or electronic warfare support (ES), electronic countermeasures (ECM) or electronic attack (EA) and electronic counter-countermeasures (ECCM) or electronic protection (EP). Laser-warning receivers (LWRs) have assumed great significance in the modern warfare environment due to rapid proliferation of different types of lasers used in a variety of military applications.
