'Land Titling and Customary Rights: Comparing Land Registration Projects in Thailand and Indonesia'

A long-term World Bank-financed project for the systematic registration of land was started in Indonesia in 1995. As is apparent from its goals, the project is based on the assumption of a positive correlation between standardised property rights and economic development. The primary aims of the project are, amongst other things, the improvement of security of individual rights to land, the promotion of economic development, and the creation of efficient land markets.
