Abstract
Allopatry is geographic distribution discrete from that of another population or species. Allopatric speciation is speciation by geographic isolation. Parapatry is the allopatry of adjacent populations whose distributions meet without overlap. Such shared geographic boundaries indicate either intergradation, hybridization, parapatric speciation, or competitive exclusion between the populations.
