Abstract
Actinic keratoses are common epidermal skin lesions, particularly among the older population, with the potential to develop into squamous cell carcinoma. It is currently not possible to predict which actinic keratoses will progress to squamous cell carcinoma, a potentially fatal condition, so early diagnosis and treatment are critical. The prognosis for actinic keratosis is generally good and with treatment rarely metastasizes to squamous cell carcinoma (du Vivier, 1993).
