Abstract
Megacities are large urban centers with populations in excess of 10 million inhabitants. The number of megacities grew from two in 1950 to 23 in 2010. By 2030, there will be an estimated 41 megacities, with much of the growth of megacities occurring in China, India, and sub‐Saharan Africa.
