Abstract

This entry seeks to cover aspects concerning the topic of nomothetic and idiographic assessment. These aspects include a brief definition as well as a historical background or foundations on the terms nomothetic and idiographic. Additionally, the various assessments currently used and being developed to measure both forms of data will be discussed including their benefits and limitations. Furthermore, the controversies involving the varying views from theorist and clinicians will be considered. This entry will hopefully deliver a better understanding of how to use nomothetic and idiographic assessments, and the data derived from those assessments.
