Abstract
There are almost 4000 species of cockroaches. About so species have become domestic pests, and the most important medically are Blatella germanica (the German cockroach), Blatta orientalis (the oriental cockroach), Periplaneta americana (the American cockroach) P. australasiae (the Australian cockroach), Supella longipalpa ( = S. supellectilium ) (the brown-banded cockroach) and Leucophaea maderae (the Madeira cockroach). Cockroaches are sometimes called roaches or steam-bugs.
