Abstract Catastrophe excess of loss is a form of nonproportional reinsurance that protects the insurance company against an accumulation of losses due to single events. The main purpose of this form of reinsurance is to protect the financial stability of the insurer and to smooth financial results between years with or without catastrophic losses.
